About Dr. Daniel Shtraykher, DO FAAP
Dr. Daniel Shtraykher is an accomplished pediatrician who completed his education at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and further honed his skills with a pediatric residency at NYU Winthrop. As a deeply compassionate and soft-spoken professional, Dr. Shtraykher specializes in the care of newborns, children, and teenagers, establishing a notable reputation within the heart of Flatbush, where he resides with his wife and three children.
With an extensive decade of experience in treating patients in Brooklyn, Dr. Shtraykher has become acutely aware of the high prevalence of PANDAs and PANs within the community. It’s distressing to note the limited number of pediatricians confident in addressing these conditions, which unfortunately leads to potential misdiagnoses and increased anxiety for both parents and children. Navigating the complex referral process to specialists often results in undue treatment delays. Recognizing this, Dr. Shtraykher’s commitment is unwavering in delivering compassionate care and effective treatment for children affected by these challenging psychological disorders. He prides himself on his prompt availability, with appointments typically accessible within just a few days, ensuring that every child receives the timely, dedicated care they rightly deserve.
Anti-inflammatory Medications
Anti-inflammatory medications are essential in helping children with PANDAS feel better. PANDAS can cause sudden changes in behavior and emotions, and these medications work by reducing the inflammation in the brain that causes these problems.
Antibiotics
When a child with PANDAS takes antibiotics, it can make them feel better. PANDAS happens because of an infection, and the antibiotics help fight and get rid of that infection.
IVIG
When a child has PANDAS, IVIG can be a big help in making them feel better. IVIG is a special treatment that gives the child extra antibodies from healthy donors.
What is PANDAs?
PANDAS is a term used to describe a specific subset of children who experience neuropsychiatric symptoms following a mild illness. These symptoms often manifest dramatically and seemingly overnight, including motor or vocal tics, obsessions, compulsions, mood changes, irritability, hyperactivity, and separation anxiety from loved ones.
Both PANDAs and PANs are considered neurological and psychiatric conditions, characterized by the presence of severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and/or tics that significantly impact daily functioning. Typically, these symptoms emerge between the ages of 3 and puberty and exhibit sudden and dramatic fluctuations.
